Blue Jay Study is an original Metal Drawing by artist Jen Lipski. This unique artwork was created by painting onto a sheet of steel with layers of clear acid. The acid is quickly applied to the metal, causing the steel to rapidly oxidize and darken in colour, before being washed away to control the effect. After the patina, thin surface layers of the steel are then sanded away to expose the raw metal beneath, creating remarkably bright highlights. The artwork includes a rustic frame made of reclaimed wood, secured directly to the painting. Due to the highly reflective nature of the steel, the appearance of this artwork varies greatly under different lighting conditions!
