Knife-Making 101 Workshop
Knife-Making 101 Workshop
Share
Experience level: Intermediate (not recommended for beginners, not recommended for minors)
Duration: 8-10 hours
In this workshop you will work hands-on at the forge to learn the basics of knife-making using modern and traditional blacksmithing techniques. During the class you will design and craft your own blade completely by hand and to take it home with you at the end of the day. Perfect for the Forged In Fire enthusiast!
In this full day workshop we will discuss the principals of knife-making, heat treating, and identifying types of steel, and you will craft your own custom blade from the material provided. You will use the forge as well a variety of hand and power tools to shape and sharpen your new knife, including a paracord-wrapped handle (if desired).
This Workshop requires a significant amount of hammering as well as the use of power tools to craft and shape your blade. This class is not recommended for minors. Although this is a beginner's level knife-making workshop, it is not a beginner's level blacksmithing course. It is highly recommended that you take our Letter Opener Workshop (or similar beginner's class) prior to registering for knife-making, as this class skips over the basic principles and techniques taught in the beginner's courses (unless you have equivalent blacksmithing experience, as this workshop builds upon the skills learned in the letter opener class).
This Workshop differs from the Rebar Knife Workshop in the type of steel, size, and the process used to craft your blade. Both workshops teach a different approach to forging a knife. This class is much longer and more intensive than the Rebar knife course, but you have the opportunity to craft a much larger and tougher blade.
This class is a long day and a lot of work, so be sure to come full of energy! This class typically lasts for approximately 8-10 hours and includes a small pizza lunch.
